A really striking, sparkly and large antique circa 1880's yellow 18K gold and silver topped crescent moon pendant with cut paste. This particular crescent shows skill not only in the various sizes and shapes of the cuts of paste but also in the detail put into the heavy gold settings and vertical dimension of the crescent shape. Paste is cut glass which required a high degree of skill to work with and this material was desired for its sparkle and likeness to natural gemstones. Paste was a more affordable alternative to natural stones, making it popular during the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco eras.
Measures 2 inch long by just under 1.75 inch across. Weighs 13.9 grams. Portuguese origin. In very good preowned antique condition.
