This is an absolutely wonderful Antique platinum approx 1.5ctw octagonal diamond ring, size 8-8.25. The center diamond is a star — a natural antique cut in a lesser seen octagonal cut, measuring 6.8 x 6.9 mm, somewhat adjacent to an Asscher but with additional angled cuts adding to its allure. It has all the charm we expect from antique hand cut diamonds with its open culet and wide facets. The color and clarity, G / VS, is exceptional and this diamond has so much white fire. It is surrounded by various old round cut diamonds set in platinum, with filigree details that work to accentuate the linear lines of this ring.
One unusual element about this ring is the obvious evidence of sizing. Originally it must have been a very small size, as we can see some evidence of a remaining engraving from 1920 and some initials. This has been interrupted by sizing to a larger size which introduced a section of yellow 14K gold at the back of the ring (this appears to be a very old sizing). We are happy to resize this ring up or down free of charge (just add an order note with the requested size) and we will replace the 14K gold section with platinum to make it continuous with the rest of this wonderful ring and closer to its origins.
Measures 9.9mm wide. Weighs 3.3 grams. In very good preowned condition, minimal wear (nothing noticeable at 10X for center stone, some minor wear on side stones).
